Run by a professional stand-up comedian, this 1.5 hour taster workshop gives you the chance to write your first ever 5 minute set that’s all about you. You’ll learn some basic techniques for formulating a short routine and find out about how to approach comedy writing in your daily life. We’ll also examine the work of other comedians and have great fun as you build your comedy writing confidence. This is all in a safe space, and you’ll be happy to know it’s just the writing bit of stand-up so no-one will be forced to perform. We will be creating a lovely, self-indulgent writing space in a safe environment.
This taster workshop will show you how to:
Create your ‘comedic struggle’ by taking your failures, successes and life experience into a set.
Write using practical starter exercises
Find out which comedy persona suits your communication style
Write using comedic devices to create great stand-up sets
Learn about the psychology of audiences
Discover what you do and what you’re about in a new dynamic way
Give your pitches and presentations distinction and gravitas
Who is it for?
This introduction is for first time stand-up comedy writers who are interested in learning the craft. It can also help people who want some new inspiration for their business presentations or those who find the whole process of writing and talking about themselves nerve wracking.
