The Grow Group is an exciting new initiative bringing together refugees and students in Bristol through planting and caring for a community garden in St Pauls. Set up by Bristol University’s Student Action for Refugees (STAR) and Roots Community Gardening Societies, the project aims to cultivate, not only a garden, but also social integration, wellbeing and an inclusive space for talking and sharing.
This collaborative project will be based in the gardens surrounding St Agnes’ Church and St Agnes’ Park, and will grow fruit and vegetables to be shared amongst the gardeners. Not only will they grow fruit and vegetables, but a wildflower garden, which they hope will become a peaceful, relaxing and meditative space for the volunteers.
The project is open to anyone who is interested in getting involved. Due to its location in St Agnes’ park it is also family friendly, so anyone of any age is welcome to lend a helping hand. The sessions will be run on Friday afternoons, and will be followed by coffee, tea and cake in St Agnes’ Church for the gardeners.
